West Africa is mostly flat and the principal hilly areas , rising to about 1000 meters , are good for hiking. The coastal areas are close to the equator, but all of West Africa is North of it . The physical environment ( Sahel /Sahara) and the wildlife are not West-Africa’s principal attractions that are its people.

BURKINA FASO

Situated in the Sahel region south of the Sahara, Burkina Faso is 500 Km from the Atlantic Ocean. Three main great rivers run through the country: The Mouhoun in the west and the Nazinon and the Nakembe which cut across the flat relief at the centre of the country. Two important rivers cross the country, the Black Volta and the White Volta. High plains of about 300 to 400 metres comprise the major part of the territory, though a few elevations dot the country. The highest one, Mount Tenakourou in the west near the frontier of Mali, measures 749 metres, followed by the peak of Nahouri in the south. The territory is made up of a great low lying plateau, and has a mosonic climate with summer rains. In winter the prevailing north wind is turning the country more and more into desertland. There are two principal cities, Ouagadougou, and Bobo-Dioulasso. Burkina Faso means "the land (or house) of the incorruptible people".


BENIN

Small country with a high concentration of tourist attractions, Benin's national parks and culture are among its main tourist attractions. Abomey is one of Benin's main tourist attractions, with palaces that became a World Heritage Site in 1982. The capital city Porto Novo's attractions include its museums and architecture.


GAMBIA

Gambia, in West Africa, is a small, narrow country with an outlet to the Atlantic Ocean. In 1588 Britain purchased from Portugal trading rights to this territory extending along both sides of the Gambia River. Independence came in 1965. After nearly 30 years of democratic rule, Gambia's president was ousted by a military coup in 1994. The constitution was rewritten and approved by national referendum in August 1996, and constitutional rule was reestablished in January 1997. Most people are subsistence farmers; the main export is groundnuts (peanuts).


SENEGAL

The country has the required assets for a blooming tourism industry. It is only a few hours away from major tourist markets; five hours away from Western Europe and about seven hours away from the East Coast of the United States. Besides it is a sunny country claiming more than 3000 hours of sunshine yearly. All forms of tourism can be experienced in Senegal seaside resorts (leisure, aquatic sports, horseback riding, discovery and more), cultural tourism, bird watching, sport tourism (hunting, scuba diving), ecotourism, historic museums, gorgeous natural sites, six major game parks and reseves, diversified fauna and flora to name a few.


TOGO

Tourism includes numerous Togo sightseeing spots and holiday destinations. These holiday destinations have become the ultimate resort to peace lovers and honeymoon couples. The edenic beauty of Togo is evident on a tour through the Mandouri hunting reserve. This reserve is situated in the northeastern part of the country. The comely effect of the coastal beaches provide an ever lasting impression and a memory to cherish with. Apart from the various water sports and beach sports, deep sea fishing in the Guinea coast is also a favorite past time in Togo Tourism.

Today as the 5 th departmental capital of Mali , MOPTI is at the flooding junction, a first class trade center, but most of all , the starting point of tours such as : Mopti , Jenne , Dogon country , Timbuktu and GAO .


NIGER

Niger is an arid, landlocked country of the Sahel with a population of 12 million. It is bordered by Algeria, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Nigeria, Chad and Libya. Niger is a former French colony which was granted independence in 1960. The land is mostly desert plains and dunes, with rolling savanna in the southeast. Touristic places: W National Park magnificent National Park, easiest accessed from Niamey Koure see the last herd of giraffes in West Africa Balleyara Market — Two hours from Niamey, one of West Africa's largest animal markets, plus a colorful array of other traditional market and artisanal goods (Sundays).


GHANA

Ghana is a country of Western Africa located at the edge of the Gulf of Guinea. The countries bordering on Ghana are Ivory Coast in west, Burkina Faso in north and Togo in East. Its capital city is Accra and its inhabitants are called Ghanaians the official language is English, the national language the most spoken is Twi and the currency is the cedi. Modern Ghana does not have geographical or historical bonds direct with the former kingdom of Ghana. The first, old Coast-of-Gold. However, was famous by simple homage to the second. The name of Coast-of-gold comes from lot of mines of the country which, before being exploited by the colonists British, German, Dutch and French, were abundantly used by Ashanti ethnics group, which keeps the tradition of splendid gold jewels, a tradition which is also propagated at their nearly ethnics group Baoulé. One of the principal politicians of Ghana was the panafricanist Kwame Nkrumah. The former president of Ghana, Ghana also underwent slavery: we can always visit the forts on the coast of Elmina, the fauna and the different.
